Monkeys Took My Jetpack #42: Another Crazy Night at the Gomez House

Hi, gang.

This is a momentous occasion. At long last, we’re finally posting the first session of our Dresden Files campaign! Recorded back on eith July 23 or 24 of 2012, depending on whose file you refer to for the date, we had no idea it would be the start of something which is still going on nearly a year and a half later.

Incidentally, I didn’t think the language in this episode warranted the Explicit Language disclaimer, but I’m listening to the session as I type this and wonder if I made a bad judgment call there. My compromise is to mention it here in the show notes, and remind you that this *is* an explicit podcast, even though many episodes don’t warrant that tag. Better safe than sorry. In fact, consider this entire campaign under that banner. While much of it may be safe for work, there’s always the chance of the occasional bomb, F or otherwise, escaping. You’ve been warned.

Enough of this jibber-jabber! Use the above link to download …

… and enjoy!

Monkeys Took My Jetpack #41: Happy Halloween!

Boohoohoohoohahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaah…..!!!!!!!!!!

Here it is, our Halloween issue. And in what is, whether I like it or not, becoming a tradition around here, I’m posting it shortly *after* the holiday!

We’re dusting off one of the greatest role-playing games, in my opinion, to ever grace the shelves of a Friendly Local Gaming Store. This is the original Ghostbusters RPG from West End Games, released in 1986. It was definitely a life-changer for me as a gamer, and I’d say it was for West End Games as a company as well. This game was the precursor to their Star Wars game, which spawned the system now known as Open D6. It all started here, with this game.

So get yourself in an ‘80s frame of mind, grab a big bowl of candy, sit back, relax …

…and enjoy!

The Advertitans!

Hi, gang.

It’s been a while, and now that the dust has settled and I can finally resume prepping Cartoon Action Hour and MTMJ, it’ll be a while longer. So to tide you over, this is an actual-play recording from Gamestorm 13, wherein I ran my first–and so far, only–convention game. I was a bit nervous, and upon leaving for the convention, I’d neglected to bring any of my notes, so I was pretty much winging it … but I think it came out pretty good, all things considered. I hope you agree.

As I mention in the opening remarks, it is recommended that you listen to this with headphones. The recording was designed to be heard with headphones, so you can get the full immersive experience of being present at the game. Also, for this game, Yum Yums were Butterfinger mini-eggs, since Easter was right around the corner. If you hear a small thump or roll, chances are it was an egg being tossed at someone. Ain’t QAGS grand?

Okay, I think that covers everything. Download the file, don your headphones…

…and enjoy!

The Current State of Things

Hi, everyone.

This is just a quick announcement post to let you all know what’s happening around here in MTMJ-land.

First off, I know some of you have sent in comments and are probably wondering why the hell they aren’t posted to the blog yet. Well, as it happens, Word Press is being wonky, and I can’t log in. Therefore, I can’t approve your posts. And the person who can fix this for me is currently having a wonderful time at the San Diego ComiCon, the lucky stiff, and won’t be back to his warm, safe internet connection where he can assist me for about a month. So there’s a chance he can get away from his SoCal shenanigans long enough to do something, but I believe in planning for the worst-case scenario and gratefully ditching said plans when it becomes clear they’re unnecesary. So let’s assume your comments won’t get posted for a while. Best way to get ahold of us if you want a response from me is to email feedback@MTMJetpack.com.

In other news, my father succumbed to cancer on July 8, and I’ll be away from anything podcast-related (at least as far as editing is concerned) for about a week. So there’s going to be a delay before the next Cartoon Action Hour. Not talking months or anything, but two to three weeks aren’t outside the realm of possibility. Thanks for your patience. Some who already know what’s been going on have sent me wonderful offerings of help and friendship, and I can’t thank you enough for those. You know who you are, and you all rock beyond words’ ability to quantify. That’s one of the truly remarkable things about this hobby of ours–you think you’re just getting together for a night of gaming every week or two, but before you know it, you’ve got friends whose bond is greater than the sum of its parts, so to speak. And some of you, I haven’t even met across a virtual gaming table, but your heart-felt wishes and sentiments are equally precious to me. Thank you all.

Okay, grab a Klenex, wipe your eyes, and let’s get on to happier things. I’m still taking votes on what to do with issue #40, but unless lots of people step up (at least four of you), we have a clear winner. No, I’m not telling which one; I don’t want to influence the vote. Send your votes to feedback@MTMJetpack.com. THanks.

All right. Enough babbling from me. I’ve got packing to do.

Keep your jetpacks fired up, and never miss an opportunity to soar to the highest heights you can dream of. It’s astounding. Time is fleeting. Ma … Wait, that’s not right. … But time *is* fleeting, so don’t waste it.

Go live your lives, and…

Enjoy.

Monkeys Took My Jetpack #39: Who Are You?

Hey, kits and kats … (Why am I suddenly feeling hungry?)

Our next issue is out, and in it, you will find our character-creation discussion for the upcoming Dresden Files campaign. Really not much more to say on the subject.

Before I let you get to downloadin’, I proposed something in my closing remarks, and I just want to mention it here, too, so it’s … well … more in-your-face. Our next issue is #40, and rather than start a new campaign on a 0 issue, I want to start it on #41. So … what to do with #40? Well, there are a couple one-shots just waiting to be edited, and I thought I’d put it to you, our loyal and wonderful listeners, to tell us which one you want to hear. Here are our options:

1) We did a Barbarians of Lemuria game (We being Josh, Moondog and yours truly, BlindGeek), and it was alluded to briefly by Moondog in MTMJ#37. So we could put that up on the feed. Alternatively…

2) A while back, when the original group was still … the original group, we did a one-shot using a game called Blood Island, powered by the 1PG system. This game is of plunder and piracy. It features me as GM, along with Josh, Moondog, Pat and Nikki. A Jetpack Flashback.

Let us know which you’d prefer to hear as MTMJ#40 either below in the comments, or send an email to feedback@mtmjetpack.com.

Thanks, and…

Enjoy.

Cartoon Action Hour: Captive Souls #15

Hi, gang.

Yes, it’s Captive Souls #15, not … I say again, *not* #14, as I mistakenly refer to it in my opening and closing remarks. Didn’t realize it till I’d already uploaded the podcast, but believe me, this is not another case of duplicate episodes.

So here it is, the penultimate episode of Season 1 … of Captive Souls.

You can comment here, or you can email feedback to feedbback@mtmjetpack.com, or click on the forums link on this page and discuss the episode over there. Either way, we’d love to hear from you.

So travel back in time to 2009, where we travel back in time to the ‘80s … for Captive Souls.

Enjoy.

Monkeys Took My Jetpack #38: We Built This City, Part 2

Hi, gang!

Hot on the heels of Cartoon Action Hour #14 comes our latest issue, wherein we complete the city creation portion of our Dresden Files campaign. Yeah, it’s short, but what it may lack in size, it makes up for in substance. I’ve been rather lax in giving Evil Hat its deserved love in these here show notes, but that will change once our campaign switches from theory to fact in a couple issues. For now, though, go forth, download…

…and enjoy.

Cartoon Action Hour – Captive Souls #14

Been a while, but we’re back with the next session of Captive Souls. I’m not exaggerating one bit when I say this session is positively dreamy! Grab some sugary sweet cereal and milk, sit back, and enjoy.
